The Year of Living Biblically: One Man's Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible
Ben on The Year of Living Biblically: One Man's Humble...

This is my least favorite of the three Jacobs books I've read, but it's still a nice, quick read.

The Art of Learning: A Journey in the Pursuit of Excellence
Ben on The Art of Learning: A Journey in the Pursuit o...

Waitzkin is a beast; I think the book works better as a biography than as a manual about how to learn, though -- it's too platitudy for the latter.

It's Superman!: A Novel
Ben on It's Superman!: A Novel

Haven't been motivated to read this for a while, so abandoning for now

The Upside of Irrationality: The Unexpected Benefits of Defying Logic at Work and at Home
Ben on The Upside of Irrationality: The Unexpected Ben...

There's something about the Kindle app (for the iPad, specifically) that makes books feel much shorter...

That said, The Upside of Irrationality follows close on the heels of Predictably Irrational. I almost feel like they should be combined into a single book -- it feels a lot like the earlier work, with more research and more surprising findings to discover.

The 39 Clues, Book 9: Storm Warning
Ben on The 39 Clues, Book 9: Storm Warning

Took about an hour to blow through this one... is it just me, or are these getting shorter?

The Second Siege: Book Two of The Tapestry
Ben on The Second Siege: Book Two of The Tapestry

Escalates the story from the first way beyond what I'd expect -- though reading the blurb for the third (due out in November 2010), I see where Neff is going. Lots of fun, and less obviously a Harry Potter derivative this time around.

The Red Pyramid (The Kane Chronicles, Book 1)
Ben on The Red Pyramid (The Kane Chronicles, Book 1)

Very similar to the Percy Jackson books in a lot of ways, but not bad for that.

I Am Not A Serial Killer (John Cleaver)
Ben on I Am Not A Serial Killer (John Cleaver)

that was ... very unexpected

Changes (Dresden Files, Book 12)
Ben on Changes (Dresden Files, Book 12)

My first iPad book!

Heist Society
Ben on Heist Society

I think I kind of bought this by accident - the perils of one-click e-book purchases! Nevertheless, it's a fun bit of YA competency porn so far.

Boneshaker (Sci Fi Essential Books)
Ben on Boneshaker (Sci Fi Essential Books)

Heard a lot of good about this - what's not to love in a zombie steampunk airship alternate-history adventure?

NurtureShock: New Thinking About Children
Ben on NurtureShock: New Thinking About Children

I'm thinking about giving this book to every parent I know this holiday season – it's a fantastic summary of recent research in child development, and it's already changed how I interact with my daughter. I just wish it were longer, and I hope Bronson will continue to expand on this.

NurtureShock: New Thinking About Children
Ben on NurtureShock: New Thinking About Children

Started with the free sample for the Kindle app, and I'm hooked.

Leviathan
Ben on Leviathan

Fun read; some of the science was dodgy, of course, but given my recent steampunk kick I'm willing to overlook that :)

The Talent Code: Greatness Isn't Born. It's Grown. Here's How.
Ben on The Talent Code: Greatness Isn't Born. It's Gro...

Just finished this morning, and it was an excellent book. It may have leaned too heavily on the myelin argument, but each different perspective is valuable.

Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games)
Ben on Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Ga...

Read it on the flight from DFW to SFO, and enjoyed it immensely. Looking forward to the third in the trilogy.

The Hunger Games
Ben on The Hunger Games

Originally, I thought this was going to be a retelling of Battle Royale, but it ended up being something distinct. Great read.

Gods of Manhattan II: Spirits in the Park
Ben on Gods of Manhattan II: Spirits in the Park

Very nicely done

Confessions of a Public Speaker
Ben on Confessions of a Public Speaker

Excellent book, but I read it over-fast - I'm planning on writing a review, but I'll need to skim it as I write to make sure I get everything in.

Confessions of a Public Speaker
Ben on Confessions of a Public Speaker

Super excited to be reading this (it's out in ebook form)
