Read in 3 big gulps. It could have been much better edited, but reads as a one sided conversation, which is what I have come to understand it actually pretty much was - a book version of her one woman show of the same name. A few choice morsels were laugh aloud funny, some a more gentle smolder. The rest easy reading, mildly irritating now and again. Get from library.

Enjoyed it again, but feel that I'm being loyal to my fellow ex-pat Brit by saying that. The last book is a bit wordy and could probably have been edited down a bit. The actual Rising was a teensy bit anticlimactic in the last one, too. But perhaps that's because this was written long before Philip Pullman came along and took us on the wilder ride of His Dark Materials. All in all, I'm glad I made time to read them again. Mostly, they were a lot of fun.
over 1 year agoI love Carrie Fisher. I haven't read her more recent novels, but this caught my eye. The library sure is getting a more eclectic selection since I started borrowing from them.
over 1 year agoGobbled most of these on re-read in the last week. Am now entrenched in The Grey King - the actual Newbery winner of the series. So far I'm finding it harder than the rest, but perhaps that's because it won the Newbery. Or because of the Welsh I keep pausing to sound out.

I love Marla Frazee's illustrations and she's done the covers for all of Wiles' books that i know of. This is my first by Wiles. If it slips down smoothly, I may go back and get "Love, Ruby Lavender". This one was an NBA finalist.
almost 2 years agoPurchased for K's 10th birthday. Haven't had the chance to gift it yet, so I'm zipping through it first. I suspect I bought it because I wanted to read it, anyway.
almost 2 years agoContinuing my theme of catching up with American politics, with several years to go. I love Doonesbury.
almost 2 years agoDecided it was all too depressing, especially for a children's book, at about page 5. Which is a shame since it's such a nice looking book and I want to like it.
almost 2 years agoContinuing my theme of morose non-fiction. But maybe I'll actually read this one.
