I was completely fascinated by this case when I read an article by Preston about it. In this longer version, you learn about the murders, sure. And you think you know who really did it. But the story really veers into a more personal arena for Preston and his journalist partner, Spezi. What really affected me was the unbelievable ineptitude and ridiculousness of the Florence police, constabulary, judicial system, etc. Just crazy that an advanced country could be so stuck in outdated superstitions, and could allow the backstabbing, the unethical behavior, and pure silliness from government officials. Kind of disgusted me, from that perspective.

The Monster of Florence
I started this on a whim. Without Kindle, I likely wouldn't be reading this or not until it comes out in PB.
I have good friends, a chef from Florence and his American wife, who lived there during much of this period. Interesting so far, but hardly an "In Cold Blood" read.
