This really was too long. A strangely misanthropic book with an upbeat ending. I can see why people are so divided about it.

Just started this.
It has lots of things I crave in a novel - lingering denseness, tons of detail, and a vaguely early Margaret Drabble vibe.
I can't say that I love this, but I'm almost done. It just feels a little creepy, albeit compelling.
over 1 year agoJust stuck this in my briefcase today after reading a description in one of those end-of-the-year "best" lists. Good to see Susan's posts, as I think we have similar tastes.
almost 2 years agoI'm through the part where Jane meets Francis in London. I love this book.
almost 2 years agoI loved this book. This is not a quick read, as it is extremely dense and is only divided into five sections. However, I could read more about each of the characters in the book, as I was so engrossed in the writing. It closes with a sort of meta-fiction twist, leaving me still thinking about the characters.
almost 2 years agoI really enjoyed this book. There's not much of a plot, but the characters are wonderfully drawn and the whole British atmosphere is great. Highly recommend!!
almost 2 years agoAbout 100 pages in...this is an extremely dense book, with a lot of detail and characters. I am really enjoying the writing.
almost 2 years agoI received this today and am very excited to get started reading.
almost 2 years agoWow, this is a long book. It sort of reminded me of a really, really long episode of Brothers and Sisters. And I like Brothers and Sisters, but I think in smaller doses.
